White House orders agencies to prepare for new president

(Bloomberg) – The White House instructed federal agencies Monday to begin preparations in case Donald Trump is defeated in November and a new president takes office, a routine preparation before the election.

Russell Vought, acting director of the White House Office of Management and Budget, issued a memorandum directing dozens of agencies to appoint a transition director by Friday, according to the Presidential Transition Act.

The law helps prepare for the possible promotion of a new president, but it is also “useful in preparing for the leadership transitions that occur between administrations’ first and second terms,” Vought wrote.
