When are winter HOLIDAYS in each province

This month students from schools across the country will be able to rest from homework and virtual classes for a couple of weeks on vacation.

Despite the measures of social isolation, preventive and compulsory, the parents of children and adolescents in Argentina never waited with such eagerness for the Winter Break like this year.

It happens that for almost the entire first semester they have been serving as “assistants” of teachers so that their children do not miss the year and can complete the tasks of the booklets distributed by the national government or those required by teachers from classes virtual.

Parents who worked side by side with housework, protection from the COVID-19 pandemic, and who assisted in the education of their children are counting down the days for two weeks winter break in which, at least, they will not have to “do the homework”.

At the beginning of the social isolation measures, when the schools were closed for the first time, it was speculated that, due to changes that were going to be made in the school calendar so that children and young people did not miss the year, they were going to remove entirely the winter holidays.

But the Minister of Education, Nicolás Trotta, came out on more than one occasion to clarify the situation. He ratified that the elimination of winter holidays is not being considered at any of the educational levels.

He considered that “it is contradictory” to think about it when teachers “are working so hard” with distance learning in the face of the coronavirus pandemic. “We know the enormous social cost of isolation, but these are not educational decisions, but epidemiological decisions. The value of life is above all things,” the minister explained in April.

And at the beginning of May Trotta not only reiterated that they remained in the school calendar the winter break 2020, but also the idea of a staggered return of the classroom classes in post-holiday classrooms, at least for some levels of compulsory education, and in areas of the country where the fight against the pandemic remains at more advanced levels and there is no community circulation of the virus.

With the date of the holidays getting closer, the Ministry kept its promise and there were already children and parents in some provinces who were able to enjoy the winter break.

Official 2020 calendar: changes from holidays

The pandemic forced to modify the school calendar: what happened to the holidays?

As every year, the two weeks of vacation are not given in all the provinces equally.

According to official school calendar for 2020, the first provinces to enter winter vacations should be Chubut, La Rioja, Mendoza and Neuquén. There the winter holidays will be from July 6 to 17 of the same month.

This was due to the fact that Mendoza and Chubut were also among the first to start the school year; they did it on February 26. In La Rioja and Neuquén classes began on March 2, along with another important group of provinces. So they also planned to have their winter break earlier.

The following week of July, on the 13th, students from Catamarca, Chaco, Córdoba, Corrientes, Entre Ríos, Formosa, La Pampa, Misiones, Rio Negro, Salta, San Juan, San Luis, Santa would have to start the winter holidays Fe and Tucumán. This includes students and teachers from both the Province and the City of Buenos Aires, along with Jujuy, Santa Cruz, Santiago del Estero and Tierra del Fuego.

However, the pandemic changed plans a bit of the school calendar regarding vacations. By case, the Government of the Province of Jujuy decided at the end of May to advance this recess, for students of all levels and modalities.

The Ministry of Education of the province of Jujuy, through decree No. 965 winter break ahead, which started on June 1 and lasted for two weeks.

“With the purpose of protect the safety of the educational community The following measure was ordered, with the certainty that the province of Jujuy in particular, more than 60 days ago, did not present local circulation of the COVID -19 virus. Exceptionally, the decree states that ‘the winter school break will be from June 1 to June 12 from 2020 inclusive, in educational institutions of all levels and modalities, of the common school period, for known reasons, ’” said the province led by Governor Gerardo Morales in an official statement.

Once these holidays are over and after the holiday of July 15, it is already resumed the school year in Jujuy, continuing with the virtual classes For most of the province’s more than 190,000 students, provincial education authorities told Telam.

Jujuy and Catamarca were for months provinces in which there was no community circulation of COVID-19 and therefore are in a much more favorable situation to advance the return of the “new normal”. What will happen to vacations in other provinces of the country?

Will there be trips this winter break?

In some Argentine provinces tourist activities are enabled for residents

Exhausted from working side by side with their children doing homework, attending video conferences with their teachers, turning in artwork, crafts, technology, etc. by video or WhatsApp, parents today look forward to those two weeks vacation winters coming this month.

Generally, in Argentina vacations are extended last weeks of July, and mark the end of the first semester of the year and the beginning of the last section of the school year.

Families typically use that time to do some travel inside or outside the country, or take their children to theatrical shows and to watch movies to the cinema, as well as other activities that in less complex years they are specially designed for children at that time.

This year in some areas of the country where there is no community circulation of the virus, some activities will probably be enabled for the holidays at the local level to carry out safety and hygiene protocols.

Also, from the tourism industry, they promote interprovincial tourist corridors to promote internal movement between provinces that are in equal sanitary conditions, respecting protocols defined by the ministries of health and each province.

For example, the province of San Juan just authorized activities of internal tourism from July, and Mendoza he had done so in mid-June. Jujuy It had been the first province to enable tourist activities exclusively for residents, including opening gastronomic establishments, with biosafety protocols.

Whereas, for the areas where the restrictions against the expansion of the COVID-19 remain, it will in any case be a stage of winter vacations so as not to do the homework and enjoy a well-deserved rest.

Do classes return after vacation?

Some provinces think of a staggered return to face-to-face classes for after the winter break.

The key question that students and parents ask themselves today is whether the classroom classes will return after the holidays, as was speculated at the beginning of the quarantine measures at the national level.

As already mentioned before, some provinces are working on their own protocols for staggered return to classrooms after winter break.

From the beginning of the isolation measures, Minister Trotta mentioned this possibility, especially in the context that Argentina had to develop an “analog agenda” to continue compulsory education during the pandemic, due to the difficulties of accessing the Internet in many areas of the country.

The return is expected to be staggered in many ways, both in Schedule like in number of days, so as not to have too many people at the same time in schools.

Nor would it be for all students in the initial levels. “We are going to prioritize the return of those who are finishing their cycles in primary and secondary or those who are starting literacy, “Trotta emphasized in early May in a radio interview. The latter has to do with the consolidation of knowledge in students who next year must change their educational level.

Likewise, each province designed the protocols and recommendations that schools will have to continue if they want to reopen classrooms. They include a new model of student distribution, social distancing, chinstraps and fewer hours at school depending on the number of groups in which students are divided, reported the Ministry of Education of the Nation.

In addition, each school shall guarantee hygiene and safety measures for both teachers and students, as the normal provision of drinking water and the proper functioning of sewage.
