The Federation of Commerce Employees asked the Chamber of Shopping Centers on Tuesday to evaluate the closure of large shopping centers, to alleviate the possibility of contagion of the coronavirus.

The union said it would be a measure to “discourage the attendance of people, avoid their concentration and take care of the workers who must attend their premises.”

The union led by Armando Cavalieri highlighted “the need to be supportive and act in a coordinated manner, based on the different measures that are being taken to promote social isolation.”

He recalled that in shopping malls “basic necessities are not sold”.

“It is important that everyone from his place, with responsibility, take the necessary care in this situation, which is unprecedented and must find us organized,” he said.

Protest

Workers from different shopping malls in the Federal Capital, Buenos Aires and Rosario protested this Tuesday with applause and saucepans asking that the shopping centers be closed in the face of the coronavirus pandemic.

The videos of the protests circulated on social networks, where many workers and customers were outraged by the opening of the shopping centers.

The demonstrations were replicated in Abasto, Alto Palermo, Alto Avellaneda, Recoleta Mall, Galería Pacífico, Paseo Alcorta, Unicenter and Alto Rosario, among others.

“They do not want to close. We are on reduced hours, but all that does is accumulate people in a shorter period of time,” Denise, who works in the Rosario shopping center, told Télam, complaining that “people are not aware and it comes the same. “

In El Abasto, located in Corrientes at 3200, the workers took to the streets and partially cut the avenue.
