WASHINGTON, Apr 17 (Reuters) – United States President Donald Trump announced a $ 19 billion program on Friday to help farmers cope with the impact of the coronavirus pandemic, through a package that will include direct payments and product purchases.
“These are great people, great Americans, they never complain, they just do what they have to do,” Trump said in announcing the agricultural aid program, which he says will have direct payments of $ 16 billion.
The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) said in a statement that it will partner with regional and local distributors to buy $ 3 billion in fresh produce, dairy and meat.
