“This can multiply very ugly when you have to pay the $ 10,000”

The bank secretary general was concerned about the overflow that occurred in several places after the first day of opening of the branches

Sergio Palazzo, Secretary General of the Banking Association, was concerned about the overflow that occurred in different banks after the first day of opening of branches during the quarantine that governs the whole country for the coronavirus and warned that this situation may worsen when the millions of people who signed up to collect emergency family income are paid.

“This can multiply very ugly when you have to pay millions of people the $ 10,000,” said the union member in dialogue with the TN news channel.

“Starting on April 15, the $ 10,000 corresponding to emergency family income will begin to be paid. We must be cautious and not take millions of people back to the streets. If we send many people to the streets the same day, it is a problem, “he said.

Palazzo referred, in this way, to the measure announced by the Anses that will have as beneficiaries monotributistas, informal workers and domestic workers. It is an income of $ 10,000 that aspires to compensate for the work lost in the days of isolation for which more than 11 million people registered. However, the agency reported that they will cross data to purge people who do not meet the requirements to collect the plan.

For the unionist, this problematic situation could be reduced if more branches are added, above all, from private banks to the payment of this benefit. “You have to distribute all those people who charge. Today everything falls on the public bank and only four private banks and there are other banks that do not pay anything. If they have social responsibility, the Anses impose that they must pay. They could add more than 4,500 branches in Argentina “, explained Palazzo.

“Last night we saw tremendous queues and the money was already deposited in the accounts; I know that many people do not have the debit card, but 70% of the people could have taken the money from the ATM,” said the union member and recalled that from the Bank they had warned that “this was going to happen”.

The union member of La Bancaria explained that “the banks are open and all the ATMs affected by retirement payments are working”, and stressed that the long queues were formed because “there is an extraordinary need for compulsory isolation and many people live from contribution of social security “.

Palazzo indicated that these days the banks are paying “2.4 million Universal Child Allowances (AUH) and 7 million retirements.”

“Before, the lines were one block and now they are bigger. Also, people cannot be inside the bank because of the isolation and it is not an orderly line,” reflected the union leader.

To avoid the same scene as today, the Central Bank of the Argentine Republic will provide that tomorrow and Sunday there will also be attention in branches for the payment of pensions and social plans.

Financial institutions must open their operating houses this weekend, April 4 and 5, for the attention of clients who are beneficiaries of pension assets and pensions that are members of the Argentine Integrated Social Security System (SIPA), and do not have a debit card. It also reaches beneficiaries of benefits, plans or aid programs paid by the National Social Security Administration (ANSES), as established in Communication A 6951 issued by the Central Bank.

“The problem is not the banking since we have opened with all the staff. Now the branches will open Saturday and Sunday and the ATMs will be loaded to withdraw the money,” he concluded.
