The United States recorded 2,108 deaths in the last 24 hours as a result of Covid-19, the disease caused by the new coronavirus. The figure represents a new daily record for the country, bringing the total amount to 18,621. The figures come from the count of the American Johns Hopkins University, which provides statistics on the progress of the pandemic globally in real time.

Thus, it is 228 deaths from Italy, the country that tops the grim list. Considering that the first registers figures greater than a thousand since the middle of last week and the second will report successively stable figures throughout the days – the last being 570 – everything indicates that the North American country will occupy the first place within the next few 24 hours.

In parallel, the number of positive cases reported exceeded 496,500, which implies an increase of more than 34,000 compared to the previous day. The United States has been the country with the most broadcasts for days, something that President Donald Trump attributes to having carried out a greater number of tests per capita than other states.

The epicenter of the pandemic in the country continues to be New York State. In his latest daily report, Governor Andrew Cuomo reported that 777 people died of coronavirus in the state in the past 24 hours. The figure is a slight break from Thursday, when 799 deaths were confirmed. So far, 7,844 have lost their lives in the state as a result of the pandemic.

However, the authorities have highlighted as a positive aspect that in recent days the number of hospitalizations, an indicator that allows determining the effectiveness of previously imposed measures, have been substantially reduced. Other outbreaks of the disease in the country are the cities of Los Angeles, Miami, King (in Washington state), Detroit (in Michigan), and Chicago.
