the government approved 160,000 companies

The income will reach 1.6 million workers in companies with less than 800 employees. There will also be tax benefits for 24,000 firms

After analyzing the requests for assistance, the Government approved the payment of the complementary salary to 1.6 million workers and employees of almost 160,000 companies. This is a sum equivalent to 50% of the pocket wage, with a minimum equivalent to the living and moving minimum wage ($ 16,875) and a maximum equivalent to two of those wages ($ 33,750).

In this way, the Government seeks to avoid a complete cut in the payment chain and sustain employment in the private sector, affected by the economic situation since the beginning of the quarantine. The measure aims to calm the cross claims of the business sector and the unions, which still do not agree on how to face the impact of the health emergency on activity.

Authorities released the results this Friday during a meeting of the Economic Cabinet in the Hall of Scientists of the Casa Rosada, headed by the head of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Nation, Santiago Cafiero. There, the companies with less than 800 workers who can access the Work and Production Support Program (ATP) financed with ANSES funds were analyzed.

The objective of the Executive in this first stage was to prioritize the companies of smaller size and with greater complications to pay the salaries of April that are collected in May. “The President said that he does not want any job source to be lost, if we had worked with the entire universe of companies, April salaries would not have been collected,” government sources told iProfesional.

Likewise, it was defined that 24,116 companies that employ 255,082 workers belonging to some branches of the tourism, cultural and health sectors, will receive a
95% reduction in employer contributions destined to the Argentine Integrated Social Security System, and they will have approved, in this first round, a postponement of 60
days, since according to the authorities these are areas that have had the greatest impact on their income and will continue in that situation.

The companies approved in this first evaluation represent approximately 26% of the country’s formal companies, which employ around 27% of the registered employees of the national private sector. In this way, 184,000 companies will benefit for now, less than half of the 426,000 that had registered with the AFIP in recent days, as had been anticipated. iProfessional.

Business chambers complained this week about the required billing requirements and warned that many would be excluded. On the other hand, the launch of the program in fact froze negotiations with unions to suspend personnel with salary cuts of between 50% and 70%. This occurred in the metal industry, the automotive sector and commerce, with more than 1.5 million workers in total. When the official aid was known, the unions rejected the claims of the companies.

During this Friday’s meeting, it was defined that from next week a second round of companies that registered in the ATP will be analyzed, which will incorporate the evaluation of the request of companies that have staffing of more than 800 employees and the activity sectors that were incorporated this week. This group must approve additional conditions.

The meeting was attended by the Minister of Economy, Martín Guzmán, the Minister of Labor, Claudio Moroni, the Minister of Productive Development, Matías Kulfas. and the head of the AFIP,
Mercedes Marcó de Pont. The President of the Central Bank, Miguel Ángel Pesce, and the Deputy Head of the Cabinet, Cecilia Todesca Bocco, were also present.

All of them evaluated together with the chief of staff the requests for assistance for the drop in sales produced as a result of the implementation of sanitary measures aimed at preventing the spread of COVID-19.
