The Government analyzes options for monotributistas and self-employed. They are 1,635,000 and, for now, they are the great forgotten ones in the middle of the pandemic. The same as the almost 400,000 self-employed workers, who due to the total quarantine will now not be able to go out on the street to carry out their tasks: from taxi drivers to taxi drivers, plumbers or electricians. Also private teachers.

There are also 366,000 social monotributistas, who have a minimum income but pay a monthly fee to have medical coverage in social works.

For them there will be news in the coming hours.

The Government analyzes an exceptional benefit, in the midst of the crisis. Among the officials there is a debate about which would be the best way: whether to postpone payments of some monthly installments. Or a special recategorization, allowing them to pay less in the coming months.

In principle, the most handy way out would be – in the case of the monotributistas – of the temporary cancellation of the tax part of the monthly fee. And that they only have to pay the part corresponding to the contribution that goes to the social work.

For the monotax, the AFIP raised $ 2.35 million last February. An amount less than the $ 2.7 billion that had been collected in the first month of the year.

The announcement with the final decision is imminent, with the aim of “bringing calm”, as President Fernández himself said in his public appearance on Thursday night, when announcing the total quarantine.

“We have all seen that there is a sector that up to now we have not adequately addressed and I want to bring calm to all of them. It is the sector of informality and monotributistas. In the coming days we will be issuing regulations that will ease the moment for all of them “the president clarified.

The decision will be shared by Mercedes Marcó del Pont, head of the AFIP, and the economy minister, Martín Guzmán.
