Telecom and the anger of the K militancy

Among the reasons put forward by the government to justify the ejection of Alejandro Vanoli from ANSES not only include the fateful day of the retired people crowded at the doors of the banks, nor the chaos around the payment of the IFE nor the journalistic statements about not there will be more bonuses to complement retirements.

In addition, a more political reason is mentioned. An alleged forgetfulness of Vanoli that cost the State the loss of representation on the board of one of the large private companies: Telecom.

The company, along with other heavyweights such as Techint, are part of the “inheritance” that ANSES received after the restatement of the pension funds of the AFJP, which occurred in 2008. From there, the shares became part of the Sustainability Guarantee Fund. Which, in other words, implies that the State, at the head of ANSES, became a shareholder in large companies and, therefore, won the right of representation on the boards.

It was one of the most notorious policies during Cristina Kirchner’s administration, which, for example, at the time appointed Axel Kicillof as director of Techint, where the now Buenos Aires governor pressed for the steelmaker to suspend investments outside the country and prioritize national projects .

For Kirchnerism, the actions of the FGS always had a strong symbolic value and not by chance one of the last important laws of Cristina Kirchner, when Mauricio Macri’s victory already seemed clear, was a legal “shield” that would prevent the sale of these Actions.

Now, the information leaked from the Government to the media indicates that Vanoli made an unforgivable political error, because the President’s intention was for his Interior Minister, Eduardo “Wado” de Pedro, to move to a chair on the Telecom board. That is, in a company of the Clarín holding company, by virtue of the merger of the telco with Cablevisión approved in 2018.

The version indicates that Vanoli did not alert the Government that it should send representatives to Telecom’s shareholders’ meetings, which led to a loss of representation for the State.

Immediately, the issue became part of the agenda of the media closest to Kirchnerism, who presented it as if this were the central reason for Vanoli’s resignation and not the management difficulties of ANSES in the midst of a social crisis due to quarantine..

For the time being, the news has had the effect of running the axis of the debate among the sectors with the strongest political support for the Government. And it is already serving for the “internal consumption” of the K militancy, which alluded intensely to the issue on the networks as justification for the expulsion of an official who had shown a “soft hand” against business power.
