“I think my popular profile hurt me”, Uruguayan humorist and musician Sebastián Almada revealed this Sunday during his visit to Almorzando con Mirtha Legrand. His answer came after Juana Viale asked him about the call he received a while ago to audition and have the possibility of joining the renowned Argentinean musical-humorous group. Les Luthiers.
It all started when Mirtha’s granddaughter – who momentarily takes the place of Chiqui – wanted to know about the casting she had to go to after the call from producer Lino Patalano. “I was summoned five or six years ago when Daniel Rabinovich was already ill. I was on tour with Florencia Peña doing the show ‘Almost divas’ on tour around Neuquén ”, Almada began in her story.
“The phone rings for me and it was Lino. He says to me: bas Did you know how you are …?, What are you doing …? The boys (for Les Luthiers) want you to audition ”, recalled in detail the actor and musician, who did not hesitate to accept the proposal.
“They were my idols and, furthermore, it was like playing with (Diego) Maradona and (Lio) Messi). So he sent me the scores and texts because he had to introduce me in two weeks. Meanwhile, every city I went to on tour, I spent every afternoon locked up with the piano and rehearsing what I had to do and watching the videos, “he continued.
“And so I came to the Great Rex, dressed in Les Luthiers and gone on stage for the audition. It was the only time that I was really nervous in my life, There was a camera, but they were not there because they arrived an hour later because that night they had a function, ”he said. “I auditioned, it went very well. A week later Lino (Patalano) calls me and says: ‘now they want to see you in the rehearsal room, but they want you to sing more …. ‘ I had played the piano and imitated Marcos Mundstock which was very difficult, ”he added.
However, the final result left him out of the prestigious group. Conclusion: do not stay, not because of my poor performance. I received several messages from the members of the group announcing that another partner had remained, but that the audition had been very beautiful, “he explained. “I think it played a bit against the more popular profile that I had been having for my television appearances because on an artistic level I was very good”, added.
“Anyway, I admire them more than ever and being told that they were watching me was like a victory for me”, recognized. Beyond having stayed with the desire to be part of the group, Sebastián Almada came out stronger as a professional and with a positive balance. “This made me realize that I was up to the task and that I could go up on stage alone and that same year I wrote my one-man show. That gave me the strength to continue doing so to this day with tours throughout the country and Uruguay, “he completed.
