Mike Pompeo concerned about cyberattacks on Czech hospitals

US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo expressed concern about “malicious” cyberattacks targeting Czech hospitals battling the new coronavirus.

“As the world battles the covid-19 pandemic, malicious cyber attacks that hamper the work of hospitals and health systems that are providing essential services are at risk of deadly consequences,” Pompeo said in a statement obtained by AFP.

“Those who are behind these acts must abide by the consequences,” he added.

Several Czech hospitals have suffered unsuccessful cyberattack attempts, according to the country’s Health Minister Adam Vojtech.

The national cyber and computer security agency, Nukibm, warned that there could be attacks in the coming days, although it did not give details about its origin.

In a report released last year, Nukibm singled out Russia and China as the biggest threats to Czech cybersecurity.

The Czech Republic, a member of the EU and NATO, has confirmed 6,553 cases of the new coronavirus and 176 deaths.
