Mendoza: they launch a solidarity program to donate cell phones to help vulnerable students


The coronavirus pandemic in Argentina it led, among other measures, to the class suspension face-to-face and digitization of content. However, there are still many students who cannot access a computer or a cell phone to connect with this content. For this reason, the General Directorate of Schools of Mendoza threw one solidarity initiative to collect used cell phones and deliver them to the boys who need them.

The DGE, together with companies and civil society organizations launched the campaign “Your help connects us” which aims to collect 10,000 cell phones for low-income students who cannot access them and this makes it difficult for them to continue their classes online.

As reported by the provincial government, this action “aims to guarantee digital pedagogical continuity among all and strengthen connectivity in those most vulnerable sectors ”.

Interested people they can also donate money through a bank account.

Cell phones delivered they must be in good working order, and they should be approached to “donation points”, among which are different neighborhood shops and supermarkets such as VEA, II Mercato Maipú, Reciclarg and the Network for Education.

In addition, through the Foundation of the Scholarship Fund for Students (Fonbec), the DGE will receive donations and guarantee the distribution of each phone to each family that needs it.

A survey carried out by this organization, presented at the beginning of the month, showed that some 50,000 teachers from more than 2000 schools consider positive the use of cell phones to guarantee the continuity of the classes against the sanitary emergency due to the coronavirus.
