Man United beats Bournemouth 5-2, Leicester 3-0 Palace

MANCHESTER, England (AP) – Manchester United teen striker Mason Greenwood solidified his reputation with two excellent goals in a 5-2 win over Bournemouth in the English Premier League on Saturday.

The 18-year-old raised his campaign goal total to 15 in all competitions and the quality of his shooting showed why he is considered one of the best young talents in English football.

His first goal, which equalized the board after Junior Stanislas’ goal in the 16th minute by Bournemouth, was a left-footed shot after a pass from Bruno Fernandes.

After a penalty by Marcus Rashford and a shot from Anthony Martial’s 25 meters, Greenwood scored his second goal with the right leg after an individual play to evade the lateral Diego Rico in the 54th minute.

That restored United’s two-goal lead, putting the score 4-2 after a Joh King penalty had brought Bournemouth closer. Fernandes sealed the win with a free kick at 59.

The Portuguese had two assists in the game and has six goals and five assists in nine league games since his arrival in January.

United’s victory, his third straight, keeps him in contention for the Champions League qualification. The team follows three points below Leicester, which is third.

Bournemouth is second to last.

Jamie Vardy passed the 100-goal mark in the Premier, scoring twice in a 3-0 Leicester victory over Crystal Palace to clinch third place.

Vardy’s goals also place him as the league’s leading scorer, with 21 – two more than Arsenal’s later Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

Kelechi Iheanacho scored Leicester’s first in the 49th minute.

Meanwhile, Wolverhampton’s aspirations to clinch its first Champions League qualification stumbled as it fell 2-0 at home to Arsenal.

Goals from Bukayo Saka, an 18-year-old midfielder, at 43 minutes and substitute Alexandre Lacazette at ls 86 gave Arsenal the victory. The Wolves lost scores for the first time since the season restart, after three straight wins.

That means the Wolves lost ground in their bid for the Champions League with Leicester and Manchester United, who won their respective duels.

After consecutive defeats after the restart, Arsenal now has three straight wins, to climb to seventh in the table.

Brighton moved closer to escaping relegation in the English Premier League and left bottom side Norwich more buried after beating him 1-0 on Saturday.

A Leandro Trossard goal in the 25th minute was enough to give Brighton a 1-0 victory over Norwich, the second win in four games since the league restarted action and placed the team nine points above the relegation zone. .

Norwich is still in the basement with just five games to go and was resigned to come down after only a year back in the Premier.
