Kulfas: April will be the worst month in history

The Minister of Productive Development of the Nation, Matías Kulfas, said that “if a retrospective analysis is made, it is very likely that April will remain in history as the worst month in the industry” in the country, in the context of the parate general de activity due to health restrictions due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The minister announced, in radio statements, that in a context of quarantine extension many companies will have difficulties in paying the May wages of their employees (which is paid in June).

For this reason, it is “highly probable” that the Committee for the Program to Support Work and Production (ATP) decides to repeat the payment of the supplementary salary – for which the State is responsible for 50 percent of the salaries of the workers of the private sector – also during the month of May.

Regarding the industrial sectors that cannot yet produce again and where there is a risk of shortages, such as cigarettes, the official highlighted that he is working together with the Ministry of Health to rehabilitate sectors based on sanitary protocols.

“There are many places in the country that have rehabilitated industries. In the metropolitan area and in Greater Buenos Aires, large industries are half the employment, ”said Kulfas.
