Kevin Harvick wins the Hand Sanitizer 400 in NASCAR

The American driver Kevin Harvick (Ford) won the NASCAR Hand Sanitizer 400 on Sunday, surpassing Danny Hamlin, who had to leave due to an accident, in the last few laps.

Harvick thus achieved his third victory in Indianapolis, the fourth of the season and the 53rd of his career.

With seven laps to go, hitherto leader Hamlin (Toyota) collided with the wall and his car ignited out of the race after leading several laps at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

Hamlin came from winning last Sunday in Pocono, while Harvick did so on Saturday of that weekend also in Pocono, which held two tests in a row.

Taking advantage of the incident as well, Cuban-American Aric Almirola, with Ford, went from fourth to third place. Second place went to Matt Kenseth with Chevrolet.

For Almirola it was the third race in the last four in which he achieved a third place.

Despite the disorganization in the sports calendar by covid-19, the Indianapolis test remained on its original date.

Due to Indiana’s response to the coronavirus pandemic, Speedway officials could not guarantee the safety of fans, so the race was run without an audience after having spectators in the last three tests.

Defending champion of the series, Kyle Busch, who drives Toyota, finished sixth this Sunday, while Mexican Daniel Suárez (Toyota) was in 20th position.

On lap 14, in a pit entrance, Joey Lugano’s team assistant (entered tenth), Zach Price, was hit by a car after a minor crash between several competitors.

The victim left the place dragging himself and was immediately transferred to a hospital. When he left the place on a stretcher, he raised the thumb of his left hand as a sign that it had not been serious.

NASCAR was the first category of American motorsports that returned to activity on May 17, after 10 weeks stopped by the coronavirus pandemic.
