In the midst of the pandemic, councilmen from Salta increased their salaries by 233%


Amid the economic crisis deepened by the pandemic of coronavirus, the councilmen from Salta de Pichanal, opponents of Mayor Sebastián Domínguez, had their first session last week and the first project they approved was a 233% increase in salary, both for them and for the officials. The authors of the project were councilors Braulio Peralte, Johana Méndez, Mario Francisco Sánchez, Paola Cantarela, Iván Basterra and Graciela Castilla, all from the Frente de Todos block. It was rejected by Marcos Domínguez, Gabriela Quiroz and Blanca Díaz, but approved by the majority.

According to the draft ordinance, the increase reaches “councilors, undersecretary, political establishment and advisers” as well as the salaries of the “mayor, municipal officials and municipal advisers.” This ordinance was sanctioned in December last year and approved by two thirds of the votes of the councilors of the city of Pichanal and elevated to the municipal Executive for its promulgation or veto.

The councilors also set the Executive’s salaries with 60,000 pesos for the mayor; 50,000 for the secretary, the taxpayer and the advisers; and 25,000 for the undersecretary and directors.

For his part, the mayor Sebastián Domínguez He published a video this Thursday on the social networks of the Municipality of Pichanal in which he announces that both he and the members of his cabinet they will donate their salary to solve the tasks destined to fight the pandemic.

“Dear Pichanalenses, I want you to know that I understand the situation you are going through, I understand that this situation brings with it a huge economic crisis, but I want you to know that my cabinet and I have made a unanimous decision and in addition to working as we have been doing, relentlessly, together with our people, my entire cabinet wants make your diet available to the community to invest in what is necessary to be able to fight this scourge that keeps us all on edge, “wrote the municipal chief on his official Facebook account.
