The Argentine Chamber of Electronic Commerce (Cace) decided to postpone the Hot Sale, one of its main sales days in the country, which was to take place from May 11 to 13 next.
The decision was made because of how the isolation ordered by the national government is affecting to stop the advance of the Covid-19 virus, as reported by Gustavo Sambucetti, institutional director of Cace.
“It was not serious to continue promoting the event and demanding from companies without knowing how all this would evolve. Therefore, it was decided to postpone the event for another date, “he explained.
Last year, the event billed more than 8,500 million pesos, registering an annual growth of 35.5 percent.
The Hot Sale billed 35.5% more than the previous edition: what sold the most?
In this regard, the executive explained that next week, if a clearer scheme is defined at the official level for the gradual exit from isolation, the executive committee of the Cace will meet and set the new date.
Quarantined e-commerce
Although the restriction on circulation encouraged the growth of electronic commerce in some areas, the advance of the coronavirus slowed it down in others.
As Sambucetti pointed out, while supermarkets and pharmacies work on the web “at one hundred percent of their capacity”, there are sectors such as electronics and household items where sales are more restricted and items such as tourism where activity is almost nil.
The problem is that travel and hospitality represent between 25 and 30 percent of electronic commerce in Argentina.
Furthermore, although the sale of food is exempt from isolation, other items in the trade are not, which makes it difficult to deliver the products.
