Government would sustain isolation despite economic crisis

The President Alberto Fernández received this Thursday at the Olivos Residence the Chief of Staff, Santiago Cafiero, to “begin to define the extent” of the mandatory social isolation provided by the coronavirus pandemic.

The latest reports indicate that, contrary to what had previously circulated, the relaxation of the quarantine will not be too much. On the contrary, compulsory isolation will be prolonged harshly and the new deadline mentioned is April 23. Nevertheless, health experts with arrival at the President push for a quarantine that could even last until May 20.

The President and the Chief of Cabinet analyzed “technical reports” from the Ministry of Health and other portfolios on the results of the measure ordered on March 20 and then extended until Sunday, April 12.

As reported by the Presidency, Cafiero moved to the Quinta de Olivos “with the definitions of the recent meeting with the UIA, the Chamber of Commerce and the CGT.”

The Head of State yesterday announced the continuity of the quarantine and warned that there will be stricter controls in large urban centers.

In the City, “the quarantine will continue”

The Buenos Aires Health Minister, Fernán Quirós, affirmed this Thursday that the coronavuris will impose “personal limitations” on daily life in the next three months.

“The mobility restrictions are going to last a long time, what is going to be discussed is the intensity week by week,” he analyzed about the permanence of the social isolation measures adopted to mitigate the spread of covid-19.

In this sense, the head of the health portfolio said that “we are going to have personal limitations in the next three months,” however, he added that from the Buenos Aires Government “it will be seen how these limitations can be relaxed or hardened. according to how the pandemic evolves. “

Punctually, he said that “restricted circulation” will remain “until the curve is finished” which marks the number of infections of the disease.

On the other hand, Quirós reiterated the recommendation for the use of “face masks” for those who go out on the street because, he said “that lowers the infectivity of those who are sick” of coronavirus.

“It is documented that the number of sick people who are asymptomatic or with few symptoms is greater,” he reported and warned that in the face of this situation, “the use of the mask is going to be more and more obligatory and at some point we are going to have to say that we must definitely cover your mouth. “

Hours earlier, the head of the Buenos Aires Government, Horacio Rodríguez Larreta, had confirmed that in the City of Buenos Aires “the quarantine” ordered by the National Executive will continue to mitigate the spread of the coronavirus.

“The quarantine will continue. In the City, the main change will be the emphasis that we are going to place in the care of adults over 70 years of age”, assured the official.

The Buenosairean governor, Axel Kicillof, today considered the possibility of carrying out “focused measures” for certain activities, regions and age groups, although he clarified that such initiatives “must be in the hands of specialists.”

“From the first day, I totally agree with what the President said that we must talk first of all with the experts. The decision must be discussed with specialists“said the provincial president, referring to the possible extension of the general quarantine due to the coronavirus pandemic.

In dialogue with Radio La Red, the leader of the Frente de Todos stressed that “the quarantine has proven to be effective” to flatten the rate of infections.

In this sense, Kicillof affirmed that in places where no coronavirus cases were registered, “more circulation could be allowed, isolating it a little more or as much as possible from those places where the disease is”.

“A logical, reasonable, more focused administration can give good results,” he said.

And he added: “Targeted measures can be taken for certain activities, regions, age groups, but the administration of that has to be in the hands of specialists.”

Anyway, the Buenosairean governor warned that with those over 65 “you have to be absolutely inflexible, more than before” to avoid getting coronavirus.
