Latam Airlines Group and its affiliates announce a reduction of approximately 30 percent in their international flights due to lower demand and travel restrictions imposed by governments after the coronavirus spread.
For now, this measure will apply mainly for flights from South America to Europe and the United States between April 1 and May 30, 2020.
“Faced with a complex and extraordinarily dynamic scenario, Latam is taking immediate and responsible measures to safeguard the sustainability of the company in the long term, protecting passenger travel plans and trying to protect the employment of the 43,000 workers in the group” said Roberto Alvo, current Commercial Vice President and next CEO of Latam Airlines Group.
“We will maintain the flexibility to take additional measures, if necessary, due to the speed with which the events are unfolding,” he added.
The airline will continue to maintain its strict safety and hygiene protocols to protect its passengers, crew and ground personnel.
The decisions made include the suspension of new investments, expenses and contracts, incentives for unpaid leave and anticipation of vacations.
To date, the LATAM Group has not been affected by demand in its domestic markets, so it has defined not to implement changes in its domestic flight itineraries, for now.
