Czech Dana Zatopkova, Olympic javelin champion, dies


Czech Dana Zatopkova, the Olympic javelin champion at the Helsinki-1952 Games, died at the age of 97, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) announced on Friday.

Eight years after her gold in Finland, Zatopkova, who was married to the bottom legend and four-time Olympic champion Emile Zatopek – who died in 2000 – won silver at the Rome-1960 Games.

Zatopkova was also a two-time European champion of the discipline, in 1954 and 1958, and held the world record with 55.73 meters.
