Coronavirus: the seven-month pregnant woman stranded in Cancun returned to the country

A group of 300 Argentines who were stranded in Mexico were repatriated this Monday aboard two planes of that country’s Air Force. Among them, Mariela Muguelar, the woman seven-month pregnant who was in Cancun and that he feared that he would soon be prohibited from taking a flight because of his condition. “After what we live now we are calm,” he said in dialogue with TN and the People.

Muguelar and her husband flew to Cancun on March 6, a few days before the World Health Organization declare coronavirus a pandemic. The company they traveled to canceled their return trip more than five times and closed its offices in Mexico.

“When everything was unleashed we wanted to reschedule the flight, but it was impossible,” said the protagonist of the story, who since then was registered, along with her partner, on a priority list to return to the country due to their condition. They were scared because most airlines put restrictions on pregnant women older than seven months to avoid the possibility of the baby being born during the trip.

On Sunday they were called from the Consulate to advise them that the next day two planes of the Mexican Air Force would fly to Buenos Aires with Argentine passengers and that they were on the list.

The previous day, the Mexican Foreign Minister Marcelo Ebrard reported that President López Obrador had given the instruction to carry out a rescue mission for stranded citizens in Argentina, and at the same time take Argentines back to their country.

“Finally, we traveled with 150 other people, including the elderly, the sick, families with children and other pregnant women, although I was the one with the most months “, Muguelar related. And he added: “Everything went very well. The Armed Forces, the Police and the hostesses treated us first class.”

The woman said that the corresponding protocols were followed. When they arrived in Buenos Aires they took the fever from the passengers and, as none of them presented symptoms compatible with the Covid-19, everyone was able to return to their homes to comply with the mandatory quarantine.

The relief of finally being home can be heard in the woman’s voice. “After what we lived through, now we are calm “, Muguelar assured.

“Three hundred compatriots arrived in Ezeiza on two planes of the Mexican Air Force that will repatriate Mexican citizens in Argentina,” Foreign Minister Felipe Solá wrote on his Twitter account on Monday. And he added: “Sister peoples strengthen their bonds of solidarity in the most difficult moments.”

The Mexican President was also happy about the operation. “I want to thank the President of Argentina, who they had closed their airspace and they allowed us Air Force planes to land to bring our countrymen and also carry Argentines, that was a procedure and it was a matter of exception, also with all the health care, “he said during a conference last Thursday.
