Coronavirus in the towns of the City: 45 more cases confirmed and there are already 410 infections in vulnerable neighborhoods

Confirmed cases of coronavirus in the towns of Buenos Aires increase exponentially day after day, and the contagion curve worries local and national health authorities.

As reported by the Government of the City of Buenos Aires, on Tuesday they numbered 249, on Wednesday they rose to 300, on Thursday they went to 365 and yesterday with 45 new cases the total number of infections reached 410 in all vulnerable neighborhoods of the Federal Capital.

In addition, local health authorities reported that 40 patients in total have already been discharged. This does not mean that they are completely recovered from the virus, but that they do not need to be hospitalized and must continue with the corresponding health care from their homes.

The explosion of cases also raised the concern of the national government. In yesterday’s daily report, the Secretary for Access to Health, Carla Vizzotti, highlighted the joint operations with the city of Buenos Aires to detect early, house by house, the positive cases. “They are working to isolate patients and it will be maintained”, he claimed.

In this regard, he added that there will be a new meeting between the technical teams of both jurisdictions to implement joint actions. The Villa 31 de Retiro continues to top the list followed only by 1-11-14, the Bajo Flores settlement, where the first death from the virus occurred in villas. The total number of deaths from COVID-19 in the port towns is maintained at 6 and the case fatality rate is 1.5%.

Given the increase in cases in the neighborhoods, this week the DETeCTAr (Strategic Testing Device for Coronavirus in the Field of Argentina) began to be implemented, to identify people with coronaviruses early and refer them for their care.

The Buenos Aires Minister of Health, Fernán Quirós, reported this morning that the territorial operation in Villa 31 threw “slightly more than 60 positive cases that are already in hotels or hospitalized according to severity” There, 363 households were controlled, 206 people evaluated and 118 were tested.

The towns and settlements in the city are a concern for the local authorities since the environmental and housing conditions, mainly the overcrowding, within the neighborhoods make compulsory social isolation difficult, where a kind of “community quarantine” works.
