Coronavirus in Argentina | Food, hygiene and total isolation: the City seeks to avoid massive contagion in vulnerable areas


The head of the Buenos Aires Government, Horacio Rodríguez Larreta, announced this Thursday a containment plan for the vulnerable neighborhoods of the City, given the increase in cases of coronavirus in those areas of the Federal Capital.

The assistance program comes after they were confirmed 13 infected with COVID-19 in Barrio 31, in addition to the presence of the virus in 1-11-14.

Given this scenario, the authorities will reinforce containment in these neighborhoods. They will do so through five key aspects: ensuring the food safety; work in the urban hygiene; safeguard older adults; more control measures in community health and attend the street population.

“We seek that no one is missing a plate of food. After the start of the pandemic, we increased aid and we currently assist 260,000 people on a daily basis,” said the Minister of Human Development and Habitat, María Migliore.

To guarantee the urban hygiene of public spaces in these areas, a team of 1,400 people working in 50 crews.

In turn, to protect older adults from popular neighborhoods, the City planned 28 care centers in different parts of Buenos Aires territory, and launched an assistance plan for all grandparents who live alone.

Regarding community health, a vaccination campaign in humble neighborhoods and awareness about personal hygiene care. According to City figures, 3,500 older adults were vaccinated. In turn, it was established as a priority to assist all those who are on the street within the most neglected areas.
