Claudia Sheinbaum asked the residents of Mexico City to wear face masks when leaving home

While the mobility to work centers in the Mexico City has decreased considerably in this health emergency caused by the coronavirus pandemic (COVID-19), there are still a large number of capital citizens who must leave their homes and travel several kilometers to continue receiving a salary.

Thus, Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, Head of Government of Mexico City called on the population to use mouth cover, especially to users of the public transport.

“Mainly it is in public transport, there will be no sanctions, as it is a recommendation. We are seeing with the Secretary of Economic Development so that they can be available (the face masks) anywhere and see if we could make a first donation,” he explained.

For his part, Oliva López Arellano, The local Secretary of Health, mentioned that they are working in coordination, both with the federal Secretary of Health and with that of the State of Mexico, to equalize measurements of the Metropolitan area facing the pandemic.

“The recommendation in the city will be the use of the cloth mouthpiece on public transport, in recognition of all the people who cannot stay in the time that is being suggested at home and require mobilization,” he said.

In addition, he explained that from this Thursday will be published information capsules about him hygienic handling of the mouthguards on the websites and social networks of the Government of Mexico City.

“If they are not handled correctly they can become sources of infection. So it is very important, if they are made of fabric, that they be washed frequently, that the part of the fabric is not touched, only the springs,” said the official.

Amid the growth of COVID-19 contagion cases, the governors of at least cfour entities have called on citizens to use mouth guards on a mandatory basis.

It should be mentioned that the Mexican health authorities have stated that its use among the population does not prevent infections and internationally there is a debate about its effectiveness.

The first state president to ask citizens to adopt this measure was the PRI Miguel Ángel Riquelme.

“We have reviewed the numbers of infected and deaths that the entity has and we define (that) we are going to tighten the isolation measures (…) and request the use of masks for the entire population,” said the governor of Coahuila in a conference held last Monday.

And so that most of the population can comply with the measure, the president affirmed that his government will be distributing the surgical masks in the most marginalized colonies and ejidos of the state.

This announcement occurred in the middle of the COVID-19 outbreak that was detected in an IMSS clinic in Monclova (which led to 20 infections), the city of Coahuila with the highest number of infected.

So far, the state has 122 cases of coronavirus and nine deaths, according to the report of the Ministry of Health.

Last Tuesday, the government of Nuevo León, in charge of Jaime Rodríguez Calderón, declared the use of face masks mandatory for the entire population.

The announcement was made by Manuel de la O, state secretary of Health, who in a conference indicated that from now on no one should be without a mask in public spaces of the state. The only exceptions, he said, are those under the age of two or people with difficulty using it.

As of today, in Nuevo León they have been confirmed 98 cases of coronavirus and five deaths.

Last Wednesday, the Governor Martín Orozco it joined this measure, after the first two cases of community-transmitted COVID-19 in Aguascalientes were confirmed.

In a message to the media, the PAN president asked those who cannot stay at home to wear face masks when going out into the street, in order to avoid massive contagions.

In this sense, Orozco suggested do not use surgical masks (intended for medical personnel), but opt ​​for homemade cloth, or use scarves that cover the nose and mouth.

So far, Aguacalientes add 58 cases, of which, 12 patients have already been discharged.

The governor Alfredo del Mazo He shared this Wednesday on his social networks a message for Mexicans:

“(Today) I want to ask you for an additional measure (to those of the Healthy Distance Day): use face masks when you leave home. This measure has been efficient in other countries.”

In his message, the PRI president acknowledged the effort made by the population to stay at home to avoid coronavirus infections, but emphasized the use of face masks will help more in prevention.

“We have all been making efforts to reduce the spread of coronavirus (…) I want to acknowledge to everyone the great effort to stay at home (…) When they have to leave the house, wear their face masks, it helps us to avoid getting infected no longer infect others, “he insisted.

The State of Mexico accumulates, until the last cut, 320 confirmed cases and 10 deaths.
