City Football Group to build training center in Uruguay

The City Football Group (CFG) business group announced Thursday that it will build a new training center in Uruguay, which will be its fourth major world base.

In addition to their central work with English Manchester City, this group under the responsibility of Seikh Mansour, a member of the Abu Dhabi royal family, carried out similar projects with the New York City FC of the American Major League Soccer (MLS) and with Australian Melbourne City.

Now the new training center will be the home of the City Torque de Montevideo, for its first team, its youth teams and its coaching staff.

“Despite the moment of global uncertainty in which we live, we are proud to reaffirm our investment and long-term commitment in Uruguay with the construction of a City Soccer Academy, which will join the three in Manchester, Melbourne and New York “CFG chief executive Ferran Soriano explained.

In his opinion, this project will promote “the training and development of young talents both in Uruguayan soccer and the rest of the South American continent.”

The Montevideo City Torque celebrated this academy project.

“The complex, located five minutes from the Carrasco International Airport, will have 90,000 square meters, which will house five soccer fields, the club offices, the dining room and a multipurpose building with the changing rooms. It will be ready early next year” , explained the club on its website.
