almost 40% say they WORK more hours than before

In the midst of the mandatory quarantine due to the coronavirus pandemic, and in view of the fact that it will gradually become more flexible, the home office is a phenomenon that is focusing on higher-income households and particularly in the city of Buenos Aires.

In this sense, more than half of the employees and professionals of the socioeconomic segment ABC1 were able to adapt their work to the home office, while in the homes at the base of the pyramid (level D1), the percentage falls to 26%, according to a recent Quiddity survey.

There are also significant variations between Buenos Aires and the interior of the country. While in the city of Buenos Aires, teleworking is an available option for almost half of the workers (44%), for those who live in the Buenos Aires suburbs it is 35% and only 29% for the inhabitants of the interior.

“It is clear that the impact is not even across the country, perhaps the most alarming fact is that 5% of those surveyed claim to have become unemployed because of quarantine and the percentage climbs to 10% in the interior,” he explained to The Nation Verónica Rodríguez Celín, director of Quiddity.

Likewise, 37% of people who are doing home office claim to be working longer hours than before, against 27% who admit that their hourly load was reduced.

As for the support of those of the population on official policy, it reaches 81% of the respondents.

This support includes a perception that the crisis served to reduce the crack in society.

The report also shows that the quarantine brought changes in habits and behavior that are here to stay: once the isolation measures were lifted, 45% assured that they plan to reduce exits to closed spaces, such as cinemas, recitals, theaters or sporting events and another 35% plan to lower the number of visits to restaurants and bars.
