Sarah Ferguson has traded the adventures of animals and children for those of her great-great-aunt Lady Margaret Montagu Douglas Scott. The ex-wife of Prince Andrew is going to publish her first novel for adults, after signing several children’s books, one on the life of Queen Victoria (1819-1901) and her own memoirs. Now it is launched to conquer another public by the hand of the Mills & Boon publishing house under the suggestive title “Her Heart for a Compass”.
«I am proud to bring my personal brand of historical fiction to the publishing world. It all started while I was researching my ancestry. Diving into the history of the Montagu Douglas Scott, I first came across Lady Margaret, who intrigued me because we share one of my names, ”Ferguson says in the note.
In the novel there are real characters and events and also experiences of the personal life of the Duchess of York, but in reality it is a story fruit of “my imagination,” he added.
“I have always had a passion for historical research and for telling stories of strong women,” he stressed. This novel is set in the court of Queen Victoria and the great country mansions in Scotland and Ireland, as well as London and New York in the late 19th century.
The Duchess of York has written her novel in collaboration with novelist Marguerite Kaye of Mills & Boon, who has created more than fifty novels for the publisher.

About the character
Lady Margaret was born on September 17, 1900. She was the eldest of the two daughters of William Frank Lascelles and Lady Sybil Evelyn de Vere Beauclerk. She married Walter Montagu Douglas Scott, 8th Duke of Buccleuch and 10th Duke of Queensberry. The couple had three children. His sister-in-law, Alice, married Prince Henry, Duke of Gloucester, thus connecting with the Windsors. He had a very full and long life and died in 1993 at the age of 92.
