Royals explodes on offense and crushes Cubs 13-2


KANSAS CITY (AP) – Whit Merrifield, Maikel Franco and Jorge Soler hit home runs and the Kansas City Royals snapped a six-game losing streak by crushing the Chicago Cubs 13-2 on Thursday night.

Cuban Soler and Venezuelan Salvador Perez finished with three hits and two RBI each, to help Brad Keller win in his first major league appearance in nearly a year. Keller (1-0), who opened the season on the disabled list by testing positive for COVID-19, struck out seven in five scoreless innings.

Kansas City had its best game of the season with 18 hits. He barely scored 14 runs in total during his setback chain.

Chicago saw a six-game winning streak broken. Tyler Chatwood (2-1) allowed eight touchdowns and 11 hits in 2 1/3 innings after winning his first two games of the year with extremely solid performances.

For the Royals, Cuban Jorge Soler of 5-3 with two RBIs and two runs scored. Venezuela’s Salvador Pérez 5-3 with two RBIs and one scored. Dominicans Adalberto Mondesí 4-1 with a run scored; Maikel Franco 5-2 with two produced and two scored.

For the Cubs, Puerto Ricans Víctor Caratini 4-2, with an RBI; Javy Báez of 2-1. Venezuelan Willson Contreras 2-1.
