The Government seeks to avoid the layoffs announced by the Techint Group

There will be a meeting this afternoon with executives of the holding in the Ministry of Labor in which the unions will also participate to avoid layoffs

After the criticism of President Alberto Fernández himself to Paolo Rocca for the dismissals announced in his business group Tehcint, the Government decided to take action on the matter directly to try to avoid these disassociations in the context of the health emergency that the country is suffering from. the coronavirus.

The first step will be a meeting that will take place in the afternoon of this Monday, March 30 at the Ministry of Labor of the Nation, to which the executives of the largest industrial holding company in the country, representatives of the unions, were called and in which it will be host the minister of that labor portfolio, Claudio Moroni.

The objective is to force Techint to curb the 1,450 employees of its construction company, which the group announced that it is going to fire in the midst of the quarantine, despite the government’s requests to employers to collaborate in this strong crisis that is going through the entire country. .

The layoffs should begin to take effect from today and would affect contracted workers who, according to the company, would be “re-hired” as soon as the private works slowed by the quarantine are resumed.

The main affected projects are located in Buenos Aires, Tucumán and Neuquén and according to sources from Techint Engineering and Construction, they explained to the agency Noticias Argentinas (NA), all the staff will be taken back to carry out the projects when they are reactivated.

The company also clarified that “construction personnel have a temporary and interruptible work regime that is limited to the duration of the project, according to collective labor agreements and the normal practice of this economic activity.”

For their part, the UOCRA admitted the meeting on Monday to find a way of solution within the framework of a conciliation table where the union led by Gerardo Martinez and the Techint directors will be.

“We have the dilemma of how we defend the lives of our workers without paralyzing the country,” said Martínez, who asked that representatives of private activity also participate in the table that makes decisions in the context of the pandemic.

Various mechanisms to solve the problem will be explored, despite the fact that Techint is covered by some articles of the collective labor agreement that allows them to fire personnel in the context of an economic crisis.

Obviously, from the Government the variants to be taken into account will be conditioned by the statements of President Alberto Fernández himself, who, in dialogue with Radio with you, strongly criticized Paolo Rocca, to the point of maintaining that the businessman “has earned so much money in his life and that he has a fortune that places him among the richest men in the world.

“Brother, this time collaborate and do it with those who made this company great, with the workers,” he demanded.

He also said that he was sure that in Techint they had realized that they were wrong, and they are going to solve it. “But I do not want there to be other cases. We from the State are making an enormous effort for these companies,” added the Head of State.
