MEXICO CITY, Mar 18 (Reuters) – Mexican pentatetla Mariana Arceo, classified to the Tokyo Olympics, tested positive for coronavirus, the president of the local Modern Pentathlon Federation, Juan Manzo, reported on Wednesday.
The 25-year-old athlete, winner of the gold medal at the Pan American Games in Lima last year, showed the symptoms of the disease after her return from a camp in Spain over the weekend.
“It is officially announced that Mariana Arceo, classified Olympic pentathlon, suffers from Coronavirus, is cared for and is stable, with a complication of pneumonia. The other members of the team that were with her in Spain are under observation,” said the manager. on their social networks.
The coronavirus outbreak has infected more than 204,000 people and caused some 8,700 deaths worldwide. In Mexico, 93 affected are registered.
“All national competitions and camps and exits to international events are postponed,” added the manager.
