For the coronavirus, the exports of the refrigerator suffer.

The decision of the national government to close the borders and ban flights to the United States and Europe, within the framework of the actions taken to combat the coronavirus pandemic, has posed a new problem for the lowered export business of the Logros refrigerator.

A month ago, the Río Segundo company was forced to cut production and cut overtime due to the outbreak that started in China, the main buyer of Argentine meat.

Achievements had shipped as many as three containers a day in December, and dropped to two a week.

Now, the fall of the operations they were doing by plane was added.

“We were shipping almost 10 tons a week to Miami and another one or two to Madrid. We lost all that now, ”said José María Roca, manager of the refrigerator.

In addition, he expressed his concern about the uncertainty generated by the restrictive measures that are being taken by all countries and that affect trade in all kinds of products.

“With our German clients, the contracts are weekly. For the next few weeks we already have the orders placed, but afterwards we do not know what can happen if the circulation falls completely and people, for example, do not go to the restaurants, ”added Roca.

Fewer containers

In parallel, he also warned that they are beginning to register problems in the supply of containers.

“They are begging them. The problem is that there are ships that in many ports do not allow them to be unloaded or take longer to do so, so the containers are not emptied and there is a deficit that is affecting logistics, “explained Roca.

Another problem is that, when the borders are closed, there are no inputs that are imported and are essential for this industry, such as the plastic bags in which beef cuts are vacuum-packed.

In this context, the hope of Achievements is to confirm the incipient revival of the Chinese market. Although there is still not much data in this regard, numerous reports indicate that the Asian giant’s economy is beginning to normalize thanks to the fact that the worst moment of the expansion of the coronavirus has already passed.
