World Health Organization calls the coronavirus outbreak a pandemic

GENEVA, March 11 (Reuters) – The World Health Organization regards the outbreak of the new coronavirus as a pandemic, chief executive officer Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said on Wednesday.

“We are deeply concerned with both the alarming levels of spread and severity and the alarming levels of inaction. Therefore, we have assessed that COVID-19 can be characterized as a pandemic,” he said at a press conference.
